134 High Street

The owners of this four-bedroom beauty have added so much to this property since moving here in 2018.

They are known for their fabulous exterior holiday decorations, so we just knew they would be great participants, decorating inside and out, for this year’s tour.

These folks are into vintage items and they just love Christmas, so you can trust that they will be going all out for this year’s tour. This is a four-bedroom home, which has retained its heritage feeling! It seems to go on forever! The century home is surrounded by interesting garden spaces on this very large lot (these gardens were featured on the 2023 Garden Tour).

With thanks to Heritage Home Partner Arcana Windows for generous support!

Decorator: This homeowner is crazy about Christmas! She will be decorating her own home and pulling out all the stops!

Specialty Vendor #1: Dunrobin Distillery will be on hand with samples and remember: You can head down to their Vankleek Hill location at 10 Terry Fox Drive on tour day! (Tip: Beau’s tap room right next door, also at 10 Terry Fox Drive, will also be open!)

Specialty Vendor #2: Dale Garvin continues his decades-old tradition of selling Christmas fruitcake, sharing some proceeds with local charities.

House History

Built between 1901 and 1904 by Solomon Grout who had a sawmill. Descendants of Solomon Grout and his wife Agnes Mooney continued to live in this home until 1945.

Queen Victoria died in January 1901. Solomon paid tribute to the Victorian era gingerbread craze with heavy brackets to emphasize the overhanging roof which protects the brickwork. The porch has turned posts with shoulders topped by decorative brackets. Between the posts, the open fretwork features turned spindles interspersed with a geometric pattern.
